Museum Institute for Teaching Science (MITS)
Overview
EcoTarium collaborates with MITS on summer institutes for K-8 teachers interested in learning more about inquiry-based learning in science and mathematics.
Summary
Through MITS, the EcoTarium coordinates a two-week summer institute for K-8 teachers every year. The 1998 institute theme was "Tools of the Trade." During the institute, EcoTarium worked with informal science educators at Higgins Armory Museum, Tower Hill Botanic Garden, Massachusetts Audubon Wachusett Meadow Wildlife Sanctuary, and Massachusetts Audubon Broad Meadow Brook Wildlife Sanctuary to provide in-depth training for teachers on the development and implementation of inquiry-based learning experiences in alignment with the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks. Teachers participate in two follow-up workshops during the year to continue training and to share ideas and experiences.
