Guest Experience Associate

If you could wave a magic wand and have a perfect day at the EcoTarium, what would that look like?  While science isn't exactly magic, our team of Guest Services staff do the closest thing to magic to ensure that each guest has an enjoyable experience while exploring the EcoTarium's many exhibits and collections.  

This is your opportunity to become a part of our team of magicians as a Guest Experience Specialist.  As a Guest Experience Specialist, you are the primary contact for all visitors to the museum and is the public face of the EcoTarium. The Guest Experience Specialist will handle admissions, orient visitors to the property, inform guests of activities and available programs, as well as sell memberships, tickets to programs and events, and museum shop merchandise. 

This is currently a part-time 30 hours/week 

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Provide an exceptional guest experience by being proactive in welcoming and offering assistance to everyone that enters the museum
  • Operate Altru (a CRM system), as well as a Quickbooks POS system
  • Keep a clean and organized work area
  • Effectively communicate with all guests as well as your peers and colleagues
  • Handle restocking of maps, tickets, forms, supplies, and program inventory
  • Take initiative in problem solving, and be flexible and adaptable
  • Maintain files, and place service calls for vending machines
  • Serve as the point of contact for inquiries and emergencies
  • Adhere to the EcoTarium policies and procedures
  • Other duties as may be assigned
  • Making various intercom announcements
  • Uniform/dress code required
  • Operate a radio and follow the radio procedure
  • Provide First Aid assistance when needed

Ticket and Information Desk and Gate Admissions:

  • Process transactions related to admissions, programs and membership in a friendly and timely manner
  • Market and sell admissions, programs, memberships, and shop merchandise both in person and by telephone
  • Assist with reconciliation of daily deposits, cash control records, and run daily reports
  • Make public announcements
  • Process arrival details of incoming groups
  • Receive deliveries and alert appropriate departments
  • Update stanchions and other signage
  • Log items into Lost and Found database

Museum Store:

  • Process store transactions accurately in a friendly and timely manner
  • Check in, price and re-stock museum shop merchandise
  • Monitor inventory levels and communicate re-order points
  • Ensure that the shop floor is kept tidy and organized at all times
  • Advise guests on the products and prices

Train Station & Planetarium: 

  • Process transactions related to train rides and Planetarium shows
  • Assist with reconciliation of daily deposits, cash control records, and run daily reports

A successful candidate will have:

  • A can-do attitude, excellent attention to detail, and be dependable.
  • Able to provide customer service experience face to face, by telephone, and email
  • Knowledge of good customer service principles, excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Enjoyment from working in a fast-paced environment, be flexible and highly dependable
  • Comfort with public speaking
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with proven ability to interact with the public of all ages and backgrounds
  • Ability to speak another language is a plus
  • Cash handling experience
  • Ability to multi-task, while remaining detail oriented
  • Articulate and mature demeanor
  • Work well with minimal supervision as well as a part of the team
  • Interest in science and nature is desired

Requirements:

  • Must be over 18 years’ old
  • Experience working on PC, using MS Officer and using POS systems desired
  • Prior work in a Call Center and/or knowledge of a reservations system is a plus
  • Prior retail experience is desirable
  • Ability to move program equipment/supplies/merchandise and climb step ladders, navigate trails, work outside under any weather conditions and be stationary for prolonged periods of time. This is a highly sensory and stimulating work environment due to constant interaction with guests.
  • Must pass CORI, SORI and background checks according to EcoTarium’s guidelines
