Art, Nature, and Play Series

Celebrate the natural connection between art, nature and play this summer during our Art, Nature, and Play series! Join us for activities focused on nature-based play and exploration and creative hands on art projects outdoors in our Nature Explore® Outdoor Exhibit.

Mud Day Thursday, June 27, 2019 1 to 4 p.m

From mud pies and mud painting to mud toss games and a barefoot sensory walk, this will be a delightfully messy event! Swing by the Art Deck to make clay tiles pressed with nature patterns, or a sculpture of your favorite animal. Bring a change of clothes and enjoy the magic of mud!

  • Paint with mud
  • Sculpt your own creature from mud
  • Play mud toss games
  • Squish your feet in the mud and make your own tracks
  • Listen to a mud story
  • Make and take home a ceramic tile or animal sculpture
  • Moosey's Muddy Brook Cafe (Food Truck) 
  • Friends and local radio partner, WXLO will be onsite to provide the tunes! 
  • Tumbling with The Little Gym

Insect Day  Thursday, July 25, 2019 1 to 4 p.m.

Do you find dragonflies delightful and caterpillars captivating? Join us to collect and observe insects, dress up in costumes, and even learn to dance like an insect. We’ll transform the diverse, colorful and inspiring world of insects into puppets and masks. Join us to play, perform, dance, and discover!

  • Go on a guided insect nature walk
  • Star in our insect theater
  • Examine insects up close at the Insect Investigation Station
  • Listen to an insect story
  • Make and take home a movable insect puppet
  • Create and keep a butterfly or moth mask
