Rate of Pay: $19.9986/hour 

Job Summary: 

The Assistant Exhibit Technician supports the Exhibits Department in maintaining, repairing, and improving the museum’s indoor and outdoor exhibit experiences. In this role, the technician will be responsible for regularly inspecting, cleaning, and performing preventive maintenance on a wide range of exhibit components. This includes hands-on work with audiovisual and computer-based interactives, as well as basic mechanical systems such as motors, filters, and pumps. They will also assist the Exhibit Specialist and Technical Special Projects Manager with small repairs and installations and major event installations. 

Essential Functions 

  • Conduct daily and weekly inspections of exhibit components to identify functionality, safety, and repair needs 
  • Clean, test, and perform preventative maintenance on mechanical, electrical, and digital exhibit interactives  
  • Support the Exhibit Specialist and Technical Special Projects Manager on technical builds, troubleshooting, and exhibit improvements 
  • Ensure workspaces, shop areas, and tools remain clean, organized, and safe
  • Clean exhibits and display cases, inside and out 
  • Maintain accurate maintenance logs, repair documentation, and parts
  • Assist with basic repairs, fabrication tasks, and installation of new or updated exhibits
  • Assist in monitoring and maintaining equipment such as pumps, filters, sensors, A/V components, lighting, and computer based interactives 
  • Provide setup and teardown support for major museum events, temporary exhibits, and seasonal installations 

Non-Essential Functions 

  • Participate actively in all staff community meetings, daily huddles (virtual or in person), and staff training with applicable
  • Contribute to a professional and motivational work environment by encouraging teamwork and providing positive reinforcement to team members when a job is well done
  • Other duties as needed

Qualifications 

  • Must be at least 18 years of age 
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent technical experience 
  • At least 1 year of general maintenance, fabrication, or technical repair experience
  • Ability to operate hand tools, light-duty power tools, and basic workshop equipment (e.g. table saw, band saw, chop saw) 
  • Strong attention to detail, good trouble shooting skills, and the ability to identify issues proactively  
  • Willingness and ability to do repetitive tasks like cleaning, stocking and preventative maintenance 
  • Ability to do physical labor, including: climbing ladders 12-14-feet, lifting/carrying 20-30 lbs. routinely and up to 50-80 lbs. occasionally, reaching overhead, pushing and pulling carts or equipment, and working in tight or low spaces  
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with the exhibit team
  • Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions and perform repetitive tasks (cleaning, stocking, preventative maintenance) 
  • Professional, personable demeanor with the staff and the public 
  • Willingness to learn new skills 
  • Pass CORI/SORI and background checks in accordance with EcoTarium’s guidelines and have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record
