Position Summary: Are you ready to pull the past into the future? We need your help!
The global interruption of absolutely everything by COVID-19 made it clear to us that, if information isn’t online, it might as well not exist. Our 200-year-old scientific collection contains valuable information about climate change and animal adaptation, and we want to make it available to researchers everywhere.
This internship offers unique practical experience in an established natural history collection. The skills you will learn include:
- Museum registration methods
- Specimen handling
- Tracking loans to and from other institutions
- Archive management
The EcoTarium is a unique indoor-outdoor museum in Worcester, MA, with a mission to inspire a passion for science and nature. Founded in 1825 (as the Worcester Lyceum of Natural History), the EcoTarium is the second oldest natural history organization in the United States. As we approach our 200th anniversary, we are working toward intellectual control of our collection. Interns participate in every step of the process with the support of experienced mentors.
Qualifications:
Required: Python coding skills, and interest in biology, museum collections, or data architecture. Relevant experience: Spanish, Ghanaian, Vietnamese or Latin language proficiency.
