Title: Part Time Custodial Technician

Status: Part-time, non-exempt, Union Position
Schedule: Friday, Saturday and Sunday, up to 18 hours per week
Rate of Pay: $19.043 an hour


Summary:  

The Custodial Technician plays a crucial role in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for visitors, staff, and volunteers. The ideal candidate will take pride in their work, ensuring all areas of the museum and its grounds are well-maintained according to high-quality standards.


Essential Functions: 

  • Perform routine cleaning and sanitation of museum exhibits, restrooms, offices, classrooms, and public spaces
  • Sweep, mop, vacuum, and polish floors; dust and clean surfaces; remove trash and recycling  
  • Respond to urgent custodial needs, including spills and restroom maintenance, in a timely manner
  • Perform light maintenance tasks such as replacing light bulbs, unclogging sinks/toilets, and reporting necessary repairs to their manager  
  • Maintain and restock custodial supplies in designated areas 
  • Set up and breakdown tables, chairs, supplies, materials, and other equipment for museum events, programs, and private rentals, ensuring spaces are prepared according to event specifications
  • Follow safety procedures and proper use of cleaning chemicals and equipment  
  • Carry out designated opening and closing security responsibilities, including confirming the building is clear of all guests and staff, securing all access points (doors, windows, and gates), and properly setting the alarm system.
  • Report work accomplished on daily checklist or written work order to manager  
  • Assist with grounds work including but not limited to weeding, mulching and weed whacking, leaf blowing and/or snow removal  
  • Candidates must be comfortable working both inside and outside and be exposed to all weather conditions

Non-Essential Functions 

  • Participate actively in all-staff community meetings, daily huddles (virtual or in person), and staff trainings
  • Contribute to a professional and motivational work environment by encouraging teamwork and providing positive reinforcement to team members when a job is well done
  • Other duties as needed and assigned by management

Qualifications:  

  • High school diploma or equivalent with certification in related field preferred
  • Previous custodial, janitorial, or housekeeping experience preferred but not required.
  • Training will be provided
  • Friendly demeanor and strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team
  • Candidate should enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, be flexible and highly dependable
  • Physical ability to lift up to 60 lbs., stand for extended periods, and perform repetitive movements such as bending, lifting, and reaching
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including holidays, weekends, and occasional evening coverage needed for special events
  • Must pass CORI, SORI, and background checks to EcoTarium’s guidelines
