Free with Museum Admission
Get down and dirty with everything from mud pies and mud painting to mud toss games and creature sculptures! Use clay, soft and subtle as mud, to make tiles pressed with patterns of nature, or figures of your favorite animal. This will be a delightfully messy event the whole family will enjoy! (Bring a change of clothes! 😉)
Ongoing Activities (10:00am – 4:30pm)
Make Mud Pies and Mud Creature Sculptures
Create your favorite recipe in our mud kitchen then make small creatures using mud, decorate with found natural objects including twigs, leaves, flowers, acorn caps, and more!
Mud Painting
Throw tradition out the window and paint with mud using tools such as flowers, sticks, pine cones, sponges, and plastic toy animals.
Mud Toss Games
Try your hand at tossing mud balls onto a large canvas to create a group mural. Can you hit the target?
Barefoot Sensory Walk
Take off your shoes, dip your toes in the mud tub, and make some tracks!

- Do you know the recipe for mud? Help get the celebration started by making a big mud pile.

- Make & Take Clay Art—Ceramic Tiles
- Using self-hardening clay, make a textured tile by pressing in natural objects such as leaves, pine cones, and shells.
11:00-11:30 am
- Story Time
- Listen to the book Mud by Mary Lyn Ray
11:45 am-1:15 pm
- Make & Take Clay Art—Animal Sculptures
- Find inspiration in the EcoTarium’s fox, owls, otters, and more, and create a clay sculpture of your favorite animal. Learn the ceramic techniques of pinch, coil, and slab while you’re at it!
2:00-2:30 pm
