Come join a team committed to inspiring a passion for science and nature.  The EcoTarium, A Museum of Science & Nature seeks an Exhibit Specialist to help maintain and develop hands-on, engaging exhibits.  Our exhibits feature AV and computer technologies, live animals, signage, minor carpentry, basic motors, filters, pumps and other mechanical components.  This role will be important to our re-opening efforts as it will support the maintenance and on-going growth of the EcoTarium’s exhibits.


In this role, you will:

  • Maintain safe and well managed exhibits in a cost-effective manner through scheduled and routine maintenance and improvements
  • Installation, maintenance and breakdown of temporary and traveling exhibits
  • Inspect, clean, maintain, and repair indoor and outdoor exhibits
  • Coordinate with the Living Collections department and Technology department for repairs and work on exhibits
  • Provides feedback to the exhibit team regarding exhibit experiences for guests and team members alike
  • Supports special events at the museum
  • Learn and use computerized scheduling systems and automatic system startup and shutdown control using BIOS settings, Wake On Lan (WOL), as well as Windows Task Scheduler, CRON jobs, and other automation tools


A successful candidate is some that has:

  • Creativity in problem solving and exhibit development
  • Bring one or more additional skills applicable to an indoor-outdoor museum, such as: experience working with natural history specimens (conservation, object mounting, etc.); carpentry; 3-D design; theater technical skills (lighting, set building, etc.) mechanical or electrical engineering; computer/network troubleshooting (including various Windows and Linux environments); aquarium/pool maintenance
  • Minimum of 2 years’ work experience with exhibits (zoo, museum, aquarium, nature center or similar organization is preferred)
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and shift timeline and schedules accordingly


Requirements of the job:

  • Demonstrated experience with electrical, mechanical and technical repair
  • Valid drivers license and clean driving record
  • Pass CORI/SORI background checks in accordance to EcoTarium guidelines
  • Ability to do physical labor including climbing a 10 foot ladder, lifting 50 lbs, reaching overhead, pushing and pulling objects and to work in cramped or awkward spaces, such as under and behind exhibits by crawling, or kneeling
  • Experience with the Maker Movement and Making and Tinkering
  • Ability to use a variety of tools including hand and power tools


Status: Full time, non-exempt
Salary Range: $15-$17 per hour
