CORNELIA MAKES HER PREDICTION AT THE ECOTARIUM’S GROUNDHOG DAY CELEBRATION!

Worcester, MA, February 3, 2025 – The verdict is in! At yesterday’s annual Groundhog Day celebration at the EcoTarium, Cornelia, Worcester’s very own weather-predicting groundhog, emerged from her burrow and made her highly anticipated forecast.
Before a crowd of eager onlookers, Mayor Joe Petty delivered the official Groundhog Day proclamation in Animal Corner, marking yet another year of this beloved tradition.
Did Cornelia see her shadow, foretelling six more weeks of winter, or did she predict an early spring? Cornelia did in fact see her shadow and thus proclaimed six more weeks of winter weather for the City of Worcester, Massachusetts.
“No matter the forecast, our visitors always celebrate this day with enthusiasm, embracing the excitement and fun of this time-honored tradition,” said Noreen Smith, President & CEO. She added, “This is really Cornelia’s day when she has center stage and can show off her keen prognostication skills. She is a beloved member of the EcoTarium family, and we are very proud of her.”
Guests were treated to a close-up experience with Cornelia, as her dedicated keepers shared fascinating insights into her daily care. Families and visitors also enjoyed engaging Science Discovery sessions, hands-on activities, and hot cocoa!
