Reporting to the Vice President of Institutional Advancement, this position is responsible for: identifying and securing institutional grants; cultivating corporate and other grant making and sponsorship entities, and managing and overseeing grant funded special projects. As the person responsible for institutional philanthropic activities pertaining to the support of the EcoTarium, this position will serve as the primary point of contact for foundations and corporate grant makers.
Description of Duties:
- Working closely with the President and VP of Institutional Advancement, develop and manage annual plans to sustain and grow annual foundation and corporate revenues based on organizational strategic priorities.
- Identify philanthropic and corporate grant/sponsorship opportunities.
- Write, edit, and submit competitive and compelling grant proposals that include needs analysis, goals, objectives, activities, evaluation strategies, timelines, a project budget, and supporting data.
- Manage and assemble all materials for grant submissions including, but not limited to, proposal forms, concept papers, budgets, letters of support, and memorandum of agreements.
- In conjunction with finance team and relevant department heads, develop and maintain accurate budgets and financial plans/documentation as needed for grant, corporate, or special project-related programs.
- Coordinate the timely execution of grant submissions.
- Coordinate and facilitate internal and external working groups involved in proposal/program design (external groups may include representatives from schools, state and community agencies, contractors, etc.).
- Steward grantmakers throughout the grant period, including extending appropriate invitations for site visits and/or attendance at special events and continuing education programs as appropriate.
- Serve as liaison between leadership and key project staff to ensure clear lines of communication and sharing of resources and information.
- In collaboration with the President and relevant department leaders, ensure that grant-funded projects and reports are in compliance with all state, federal, foundation, and other regulatory policies, procedures, and statutory authority.
- Prepare, provide assistance with, and/or edit reports submitted to funding agencies as part of funding requirements.
- Keep abreast and notify senior leadership of changing state, federal, and private foundation grant standards and proposal guidelines.
- Develop and maintain a calendar of grant opportunities relevant to the work of the museum and their statuses as applicable.
- Identify and monitor informational sources listing new institutional funding opportunities that will help to advance the EcoTarium’s mission, strategic plan, and/or fundraising priorities.
- Maintain proactive communication with corporate and foundation grantmakers to monitor and keep abreast of relevant trends, issues, and opportunities and to foster positive professional partnerships.
- Research prospective donors and prepare informational write-ups for museum personnel’s reference during solicitation and stewardship interactions.
- Assist with new donor communication efforts, donor recognition, and ongoing donor communication activities including the annual appeal and membership if appropriate.
- Maintain records in Altru of ongoing relationship development activities with foundation and corporate and their representatives.
- With other staff depending on project, assist in recruiting and managing corporate volunteers as a positive, long-term corporate engagement strategy. This includes recruiting, day-of project management, and follow-up as appropriate.
- Provide ongoing departmental support, including other tasks as assigned. Some evening and weekend work required.
Qualifications:
- 5 plus years experience in successful proposal development for private and public funding including at the national level
- A skilled communicator, in both writing and speaking
- A strong team player with experience in project management
- Be highly organized and able to work on simultaneous projects in a fast-paced environment
Must be proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat and be comfortable working in databases as well as on web-based forms and systems. Working knowledge of Altru/Blackbaud preferred
