Rate of Pay: $19.04 an hour
Summary:
The Overnight Custodial Technician is responsible for ensuring the cleanliness, organization, and operational readiness of the EcoTarium during evening and overnight hours. This position combines custodial and facilities responsibilities, including oversight of museum property while after-hours contractors and construction crews work in partnership with EcoTarium hired security services. The role ensures that all spaces are clean, well-maintained, and fully prepared for daily operations and guest experiences, and is responsible for properly closing and securing the building at the end of each shift.
Essential Functions:
- Conduct routine walkthroughs of buildings, grounds, and parking areas to support overall facility upkeep and operational readiness.
- Lock and secure all facilities at the end of each shift; ensure doors, windows, and building systems are properly closed and set.
- Serve as the primary on-site contact for overnight contractors and construction crews, ensuring compliance with approved work and site expectations.
- Monitor and document contractor access, activity, and departure from the site.
- Perform end-of-shift walkthroughs to confirm all areas are clean, orderly, and ready for next-day operations.
- Complete custodial tasks including cleaning museum galleries, restrooms, classrooms, and public areas.
- Remove trash, restock supplies, and maintain cleanliness standards across the campus.
- Identify and report maintenance or facility concerns in a timely manner.
- Respond to facility-related issues or emergencies (e.g., alarms, maintenance concerns) and communicate appropriately.
- Complete incident reports and communicate relevant information to leadership.
- Set up, reset, and prepare spaces for programs, events, and daily operations.
- Candidates must be comfortable working both inside and outside and be exposed to all weather conditions.
Non-Essential Functions
- Assist with light maintenance tasks such as minor repairs or basic troubleshooting.
- Support snow removal, weather response, and outdoor upkeep as needed.
- Provide occasional support for special events or rentals outside of standard hours.
- Contribute to a professional and motivational work environment by encouraging teamwork and providing positive reinforcement to team members when a job is well done.
- Other duties as needed and assigned by management.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent with certification in related field preferred
- Previous custodial, janitorial, or housekeeping experience preferred but not required
- Training will be provided
- Ability to work independently and remain accountable during overnight or second shifts.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain high standards of cleanliness and safety.
- Effective communication skills and ability to interact professionally with staff and contractors.
- Ability to respond calmly and appropriately in emergency situations.
- Physical ability to stand, walk, lift, and perform manual tasks as required.
- Friendly demeanor and strong interpersonal skills
- Physical ability to lift up to 60 lbs., stand for extended periods, and perform repetitive movements such as bending, lifting, and reaching
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including holidays, weekends, and late evening and overnight coverage.
- Must pass CORI, SORI, and background checks to EcoTarium’s guidelines
