Rocket Day - July 23, 2022
10:00 am to 4:30 pm
Most activities on Sundial Plaza and free with museum admission. Rocket Launch at 1:00!
Join us as we celebrate space travel and the science that propels us! Build basic physical and chemical rockets, construct a parachute to land safely on Mars, take core samples to find signs of ancient life, and count down to blastoff as we launch a model rocket into the sky. We're aiming high using physics, chemistry, imagination, and ingenuity!
Scheduled Activities:
11:00 am - Launch Acid/Base Rockets (ongoing after 11:00)
1:00 pm - Rocket Launch!
2:00 pm - Design and Drop Parachutes (ongoing after 2:00)
Planetarium Shows:
Planetarium tickets are $7, or $6 for EcoTarium members, and can be purchased at the Tickets and Information Desk
10:30 am - One World, One Sky: Big Bird’s Adventure
Do some stargazing and blast off to the moon with your friends from Sesame Street.
11:30 am - Cosmic Adventure
Take a roller coaster ride from the moon through the universe; explore our galaxy and Solar System.
1:30 pm - Unseen Universe
Discover the amazing places in the universe we can now see with new technology. It’s a look at cutting-edge telescopes and state-of-the-art optics.
2:30 pm - Passport to the Universe
Tom Hanks narrates a trip out through the solar system to the Orion Nebula and back to Earth through a black hole simulation.
3:30 pm - CAPCOM Go! The Apollo Story
Showcases the historical achievements of the Apollo program and what it took to put the first man on the moon.
Ongoing Activities:
- Get hands-on (and feet-on!) with stomp rockets
- Take core samples to find signs of ancient life
- Create planetary artwork
- Launch acid/base rockets (starting at 11:00)
- Create and test parachutes to land safely on Mars (starting at 2:00)
- Visit the newly-renovated Alden Planetarium to explore the far reaches of the universe
