Title: Strategic Fundraising Intern

Overview: 

The Advancement Department at the EcoTarium is seeking a motivated, self-directed intern to provide insights to the Fundraising Team for the development of a comprehensive strategy to gain major sponsors for upcoming major visiting exhibitions in the new 6,200 square foot Stoddard Exhibition Hall.

This internship offers a unique opportunity to work directly with organizational leadership on high-impact strategic initiatives to fund these major visiting exhibitions, while gaining hands-on experience in analysis, data-driven decision making and execution.


Duties/Responsibilities: 

Data Analysis, Research & Interpretation (70%)

  • Conduct analysis and research to identify key decision makers within targeted organizations, connections between EcoTarium donors/supporters and people within targeted organizations (to find “ways in”), and determine appropriate timing of outreach to each targeted organization.
  • Analyze EcoTarium database of corporate, private foundation, family, and other institutional donors to identify EcoTarium connections to targeted organizations.
  • Supplement analysis of internal database with research using third party data sources (e.g. LinkedIn, AI, etc).
  • Identify budgetary and planning cycles of targeted potential sponsoring organizations to recommend appropriate timing for outreach to each one.
  • Create comprehensive reports, visualizations and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations effectively to EcoTarium leadership.

Execution Support (30%)

  • Conduct research to support decision-making processes.
  • Collaborate with department heads and internal staff to gather operational data and insights.
  • Assist in implementing key initiatives outlined in the organization's strategic plan for major visiting exhibits, including development of communication plans and materials.
  • Track progress against established KPIs and organizational goals.

Schedule & Training:  

  • Duration: 10-12 weeks or length of semester/trimester/quarter
  • Start Date: As soon as possible; flexible start date
  • Hours per week: Minimum of 8 hours per week
  • Schedule: To be determined, flexible scheduling available (can work be done hybrid?)
  • Location: On site - EcoTarium, 222 Harrington Way, Worcester, Massachusetts

Requirements: 

Required:

  • Currently enrolled in, or recent graduate of a bachelor's or master's program, preferably with a focus on Data Science, Statistics, Business Analytics, or general business.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills with experience in research and data analysis.
  • Proficiency in use of data analysis tools (Excel required; Tableau, or similar tools preferred).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and take initiative, while also being able to collaborate with colleagues.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Discretion and need to maintain privacy related to Museum donor information, and all other proprietary Museum information.
  • Business casual attire.

Preferred:

  • Previous experience with database management, CRM systems, data analytics and statistical analysis.
  • Familiarity with and previous use of generative AI systems.
  • Experience creating presentations for leadership audiences, using PowerPoint or other software.
  • Knowledge of/familiarity with the museum/cultural sector or non-profit organizations.
  • Genuine interest in science education, environmental conservation, or museum operations.
