Job Summary:

Have you always dreamed about driving a 1863 C.P. Huntington steam locomotive replica around beautiful museum grounds? Do you have experience operating heavy equipment? Would you enjoy helping children and families have a safe and wonderful train ride? Do you enjoy working outside? We’re calling all train engineers - All Aboard!

The EcoTarium, a museum of science and nature, is seeking a train engineer with a safe driving record to join our team. Experience driving heavy equipment is preferred. Pleasant manner and sense of humor is required. Our Explorer Express Train provides excitement for EcoTarium visitors. Open-air passenger cars take visitors on a scenic 12 to 15-minute ride; a relaxing and beautiful way to see the museum grounds.


  • Follow all procedures for the safe operation of the Explorer Express train
  • Provide Excellent Customer Service with a smile
  • Provide a 5-minute, educational and safety speech to riders before each ride
  • Assist customers in wheelchairs with safe boarding and securing wheel restraints
  • Walk tracks daily to inspect tracks and document any safety concerns
  • Conduct regular maintenance checks on equipment and communicate any issues in need of repair to the Certified Maintenance Mechanic on staff
  • Keep the train clean and tidy, ship shape
  • Sell and collect passenger tickets
  • Maintain current knowledge of all safety procedures and policies, and ability to execute them in case of emergency

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Must be 18 years or older with a valid driver’s license and good driving record
  • Must be physically able to walk the tracks to conduct daily inspections
  • Ability to pass the engineer training program with sign off from the EcoTarium’s state
    Certified Maintenance Mechanic
  • This position may require random drug testing for safety purposes

Rate of Pay: $17.00/hour
